FAQs
How do I choose a room fragrance?
Choosing a room fragrance is a very personal process, as everyone’s sense of smell is unique!
To choose the room fragrance that works for you, think about room fragrances you already know you love. If you prefer fresh scents like lemon and cut grass, look for room fragrances with these notes. Or, if you prefer brooding scents like leather and coffee, look for room fragrances with pure essential oils in musky scents.
How can I make my room fragrance last longer?
It depends on which room fragrance you have chosen.
To make fragrance sprays last longer, try to avoid just spraying them into the open air. Spraying them onto soft surfaces like cushions, curtains, bedding and carpet will help the scent linger for longer.
For diffusers, keeping them away from direct sunlight, draught and excessive heat will help them last longer. High temperatures can make the oil evaporate faster, which means your diffuser will run out sooner.
For candles, the only way to make them last longer is to burn them less often!
How can I make my home smell nice all the time?
This is a big job but it’s not impossible! If you want to make your home smell nice all of the time, there is lots to think about. You need to go further than scented candles and diffusers, you need to eliminate all bad smells completely! Here are a few ideas to get you started:
-
Use a HEPA filter in your vacuum to remove micro particles from your carpets and soft furnishings
-
Open your windows regularly, so you have a consistent supply of fresh air
-
Use scented cleaners everywhere! From your drains to vents, curtains, the floor and surfaces, every surface should be cleaned with a scented product
-
Invest in fabric and linen spray. These materials can hold on to bad smells, but that also means they can hold onto good smells too!
-
Fill your home with natural scent boosters, like herb pots and flowers
-
Neutralise your kitchen after cooking, as smells like fish and garlic can linger. Freshly brewed coffee is great for neutralising garlic, try white vinegar for fish. Baking soda is also a great neutraliser, you can pour this down drains or you can keep open tubs in cupboards and the fridge to combat bad smells
-
Create scent sachets filled with things like lavender or dried herbs. These can be left in drawers, cupboards, wardrobes or hung up on hooks and door handles
-
Create a simmer pot. Fill a pan with hot water and put lovely-smelling things, like lemons, cloves, cinnamon and mint in the pot. Put the pan on the hob and keep it on a low flame to simmer, the lovely smells will quickly fill your whole home.
Can I use more than one type of room fragrance at once?
Yes, you can layer room fragrances to create unique, customisable scents in your home. For example, you could use candles, reed diffusers and plug-in diffusers all at once, to create a beautifully smelling home. Just make sure that the scents you choose complement each other, otherwise your efforts will have the opposite effect!
How often should I replace reed diffuser sticks?
You should replace the sticks every 2-3 months to make sure you have a consistent smell. If you notice a particular drop in smell, it’s definitely time to change the reeds. Over time, the reeds can get clogged up which makes them less effective at soaking up and dispersing the scent.
Which fragrances are best for which room?
Different rooms suit different fragrances. For example, citrus scents are great in the bathroom or kitchen where you want to make the space feel fresh and clean. Calming scents like lavender are great in the bedroom, as they can help send you off to sleep. And, for the living room, you might want something warm and inviting like vanilla, as these are great for creating a cosy feel.
Are your fragrances safe for pets?
All of our products should be kept away from pets, just because they’re not for eating! Essential oils can be harmful to cats and dogs if they’re eaten or inhaled in large quantities. Also, you don’t want your pets knocking over your reed diffuser and spilling the oil as this can stain surfaces and carpets… and you’ll be sad it’s wasted!
How can I make sure my candle burns evenly?
To make sure your candle burns evenly, make sure the wick is about ¼ inch before you burn it. If it’s too long, make sure you trim the wick before you light the candle. Also, make sure you let the wax melt evenly across the whole surface before you blow out the candle. This will help you prevent tunnelling (this is when the sides of the candle don’t burn and you end up creating a tunnel down the middle). It’s especially important to do this on the first burn.
